Through the keyhole

Villeneuve lès Avignon
I'm not sure how old this door and keyhole are but I suspect they saw many generations come and go. Are you the kind of people who would look through a keyhole to know what's going on inside?
After posting this photo I realised it's been four years today since my father passed away. Blogging was part of my therapy for getting over his death : walking slowly in order to absorb the beauty of the world around me, reflecting upon it, filling my eyes and heart with it, and then sharing and connecting with fellow humans, I've found all this very nourishing. And what amazes me is the fact that my father's death has changed my view over my own death : I find great comfort in the thought that when comes my turn to push the big door, I'll join my father wherever he is. If there's something after death, I'll join him there. If there's nothing, I'll following him in the great recycling of the universe. Whatever happens, I'll follow his lead. But since I know nothing about that, speculations are pointless. The only thing that matters is to live in the here and now to the best of my ability. I believe that sharing and loving is what makes our passage on earth worthwhile.

Nathalie, that's simply beautiful, your walking slowly to better absorb, to better "see" the beauty around... and to let the healing time pass in contemplation...

This keyhole is lovely, looks to be centuries old...

You've reminded me, one of the very first posts I did way back in September 2008, when setting out on this blogging journey, was about a keyhole...

http://magiclanternshowen.blogspot.com/2008/09/secret-gardens-with-magic-doors.html

And though this is a well known piece of writing, does it hurt to remember it ? Perhaps not, so :

****************************

Desiderata....

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant, they too have their story. Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself. Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism. Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love, for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is perennial as the grass.

Take kindly to the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth. Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here. And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world.

Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

However interesting indeed. I agree.
Nous have tous a part of violence. We must bien en faire something avec. Rather than a cancer.
The voyeurisme a ça de well, c'est qu'it is une pacific violence.
For my part, je suis very curieux : I see a serrure, I regarde.
But, je hate the serrures ! I déteste les keys et all ces mécanismes of confinement.
Pour end my vie, je hope I shall be capable to go away marchant through les immenses forests désertes, up to l'épuisement and the last sommeil.

I really appreciate you writing in French and English since I am studying French. I can almost read the French but then I can check my understanding against the English.

Waow ! Quelle superbe photo ! J'adore cette serrure !...
Et ... pourquoi deux serrures au fait ?...

Jeff

Beautiful photo and words. My own father died when I was very young. I'd love to look through a keyhole and see what he is doing now.

I would like to thank from the bottom of my heart all of you who have expressed kind thoughts on what is a very special day for me. You are wonderful.

- Jilly ma chère amie de Menton, there's something special between us

A tous, merci

A wonderful text to accompany this photo !

Yes, sometimes I look through the key holes, but in the street, to see if there is a nice little alley or courtyard behind; if it’s worth trying to push the door or await somebody to kindly open it for me.

Bonjour! Nathalie,
What a very beautiful photograph!

Nathalie said, "Are you the kind of people who would look through a keyhole to know what's going on inside?"
No, but as a small child I once peeked through a keyhole.

Nathalie,
Merci de partager!
Your thoughts, reflection of your père,
and your feeling with your readers.

Take care!

To MIchel Benoit

I think you are really rude to come into this journal and use my name Madeleine, that you know very well was given in confidentiality to a couple of people I know.

Truly, when someone plays that way with identity to annoy it is called harrassement.

You talk about heros well you are a coward the very opposite. If you had a bone to pick with me you could do it in your journal or in my journal but on neutral ground where I am coming here to admire Nathalie's art and for no other reason well that makes you a harrasser and a coward. In your journal you can delete any comment and in mine I can delete any comment.

Nathalie said...

Oh my dear Madeleine I'm afraid there's a complete misunderstanding. Michel was refering to la petite madeleine de Proust (do a google search on that if you don't know what it's about).

Michel Benoit said...

1) Yes you mistake Anonymous-Raphæl-Jordæn-Jordanæ...
2) I never delete any comment except on time I did it for... you.

TO MICHEL BENOIT
I am so so sorry Michel Benoit. It is a terrible mistake.
Nathalie please delete the comment I made. I will have to go to Michel Benoit's journal to apologize also.
