Hotel d'Europe - place Crillon

Yesterday ended in rain. Let's take refuge in the cosy and luxurious comfort of one of Avignon's best hotels, Hotel d'Europe. Magnificent 18th century mansion, thick carpets, antique furniture everywhere. Here a detail of a console in the grand staircase. In Richard's Zurich this would have been black and white and I love what he does... but at the end of the day I like the golden light too much.

golden light is comforting and warm... perfect for a rainy day. 'room service, please send up a pot of tea.'

This picture would work quite well in black and white, but I do like the warm golden colors. Good choice.

Even if you can't afford to stay there, do take a tour of Hotel d'Europe. Have a look at the courtyard, it's a lovely place to have a cup of tea.

You're also welcome to venture inside. The staff very kindly invited me to take as many photos as I please.

The golden light is required in these surroundings. I don't think black and white does it right.

Just beautiful. I agree black and white has its place - particularly in shots of couples. Somehow it seems right then. This golden light is far too beautiful not to show. Lovely photo, Nathalie.

I must thankyou for your 'Great Photoblogs' Links. I'm now following the Digital Photography School and also visiting some of the photographers you mention - such talent and so inspiring.

The lamp and the ornament fit well together.

Warmth. Isn't light wonderful? This photo makes me want to melt right into that corner. Ahhh. warm, cozy, lovely -:)

Cozy, indeed.
May I have a cup of tea ?

Looks beautiful Nathalie - I love the golden glow too. I'm not keen on fluorescent light.

I just looked up the prices Nathalie because this looks like such a beautiful place to stay. Then I choked on my coffee ... pity, I could use some of this type of luxury. With all of that incredible history, I should have known that it would be very much in demand and capable of commanding high prices. Nice to dream though.
