Rising waters

Quai de la Ligne
France has been subject to torrential rains in the past three days or so and the result can be seen in Avignon in the form of the river Rhone's rising waters. This morning (photo below) the water level was already some 90 centimetres (3 feet) above normal: the boat's decks would normally be below quay level. When I returned to the same spot this afternoon (photo above) the water had risen again, covering the quay and putting this sailboat in a very uncomfortable position with no wall to lean onto (the boat is tied up in exactly the same spot in both photos). I shall monitor the situation tomorrow.

Unfortunately there seems to be some bug that prevents me from putting my photos in large format as I usually do. It's a pity because they would have been far more spectacular!

When I click on the photos they are very large. I think it is working fine on this end. And the photos are nice to see also. Sorry about the flood. We could use some of your rain water.

I hope the Rhone doesn't rise any further or cause people any problems. It was good seeing both photos to compare the water level. The photos appear large on my computer when clicked so maybe the upload of photos problem has been fixed.

Nathalie, hope the waters recede quickly. I think we are all having problems with enlargements. Peter's advice may work. I have not had good results lately. Maddening isn't it!

After seeing the rate at which the current tears through le Pont d'Avignon I would be well afraid for these boat owners.

Nature with all its splendour and power can be devastating and tragedies can occur.
I hope things slow down soon, but with the volume of water coming from the upper reaches of the Rhône, it may be some time before these waters will subside.

Your photos however are wonderful.
The large format is working on Safari.
However, if one is using Firefox, the opposite may hold true.

In any case we are tout à l'inverse ici-dessous.
Australians have the benefit of gravity so we get it all.

Including jet-lag aussi !

I used a combination of Peter's and Bergson's advice (the latter by personal email) to enlarge my pictures, it looks like the procedure is slightly more complicated than it was before.

For your info, I checked the water level from the top of Jardin des Doms and it has receded somewhat. The water is now below quay level again, which must be a great relief to these boat owners.

Wow! Mother Nature sure has a way of making us humans feel très small sometimes...

These pictures were impressive...
But I am glad to know the water receded.
We all had problems with the sizing of the pictures ,but it looks fine now, doesn't it?.

OBSCUR ?

Good to hear that the level is receding Nathalie. I love the name of the boat btw.

The name of the boat - Maria Mia,
Yes well they must be worried again tonight because the rain hasn't stopped all day today (tuesday) and I wouldn't be surprised if the water level rose again...
