Paths and Passages

Université d'Avignon
1st of February, Theme Day for the members of the City Daily Photo global network, and this month's theme is "Paths and Passages". Path? This alley along the beautiful facade of Avignon's University provides one of the nicest strolls in town. For over a century, this building was a hospice for the elderly (Hopital Sainte Marthe) and you would see men in blue pyjamas wandering aimlessly in the gardens here or basking in the afternoon sun. Ten years ago, the premises were refurbished to become the city's campus. It is now a place bursting with young life and energy.

Backtracking and zooming out, we're coming out of the University through the gate in the city walls.

Zooming out again, here's the "passage" for today's theme. The photo was taken during last Thursday's demonstration (see previous post) hence the crowds, banners and flags.
Now I hope you do go and see how the theme "paths and passages" is treated elsewhere in the world:

It was so fine artsy of you to relate to us the university message. It is unfortunate that this university spirit doesn't last a lifetime.

Belle journée encore de la lumière magique.

Great choices, as always. Just love the stonework of Avignon. Those arches, that first walk - beautiful.

What a wonderful location for a walk, whether it is a demonstration or not. I hope you'll show some more of it when it is more quite.

Wow. It seems that your paths are filled with people and most of those I have seen must have been taken on an off day as there are few to nobody on them. LOL I was pleasantly surprised to see these. Nice photos.

my Memories
I wrote in my Memories blog about the roads of my youth and how they were to travel in the winter time.

Nice combination - neo-classical elegance protected by medieval sturdiness. I'm also with Peter on this one - alas!

Beautiful solid building! Also like the top details of the citywall on the left of the arch.
