Theme day: fountains

Every first day of the month is theme day for City Daily Photo bloggers and today's theme is fountains. I've always enjoyed giving themes a twist. Will you agree that a gargoyle is a fountain, except it only flows when it rains? A bit far-fetched. Never mind, that's my story and I'm sticking to it. To see many fountains around the world click here to view thumbnails for all participants in this theme day.

All these gargoyles belong to St Martial church (here seen from Agricol Perdiguier public garden), a splendid example of late Gothic 15th century Flamboyant style. The church is now a protestant temple run by the Reformed Church of France.

That first photo is extraordinary in color, detail, and composition... I would count these as fountains.

Ah, kakis... c'est marrant.

J'ai oublié le theme day!!!

Is a fountain with no water in it still a fountain ? I vote for letting you call a gargoyle a fountain... although, when you think about it, they're really just sort of fancy downspouts.

You could also call them "showerheads", for I'm sure long ago people would stand under them to have a shower...

PS was just reading where a very large cyclone is heading straight for the capital of Queensland today... winds over 200 km/hr...

One could use the old expression, it never rains, but it pours...

It seems like a fountain to me just as a doorway can be almost the whole of the shortest street in the world.

belle journée magique Goddess of Light.

Bon. Je peux revenir ?

crederae said...

bye.

Gorgeous pictures, especially the first one (and the last). I'll take them as fountains anytime!

Kaki? - Je croix que non. These look more like some kind of passionfruit, or something else that grows on a vine rather than a tree. It's probably the wrong time of year to check it out...

Very fun to see the gargouilles! They remind me of those on Notre Dame cathedral in Paris! Happy theme day, Nathalie!

Nathalie, I'll definitely agree. They are weird and odd and make great photos. I intended photographing the stream of an elephant's pee for Monte Carlo and duly waited two hours for such event. It didn't happen! So I put on an old photo in the end which is perhaps a bit of a cheat fountain, but there is some water.

Well, I suppose gargoyles qualify -:) I'll take a sweet orange, though! You can keep the gargoyles ...

Nathalie said...

LOL Chuck !
These aren't sweet oranges, they are a variety of decorative passion fruit - not edible unfortunately!

Nathalie said...

Happy Theme Day Nathalie.
Love the Gargoyles. When I visit Europe it is something I take notice of as there are hardly any in australia.

I don't know if gargoyles are fountains, but I've certainly enjoyed looking at these. The first photo is my favourite, such a beautiful contrast between the blue, the stone and the orange.
Beautifully taken.

I was just finishing a Baldacci novel that focused on Provence for a segment of it and I thought of you. Hope you have been well, Nathalie.

Bonjour! Nathalie...
I must admit that the first photograph is beautiful (with the fruit dangling from the vine and very bleu sky)...even though I like the photographs with the gargoyles which belong to St Martial church too!
Merci, for sharing the link too!

Bonjour,

Lovely pictures! I was wondering if I could contact you about using one of them in my dissertation. Your contact link for e-mail did not work for me. But you can e-mail me at steven.j.kerrigan@gmail.com to let me know.

Merci beaucoup!
