The old quarry

Above the village of Beaumes-de-Venise not far from the beautiful chapel of Notre Dame d'Aubune, a disused quarry near which an old stone hut remains. My friends Mireille and Nine explore it. From what we know quarry workers used to take shelter here whenever they did dynamite blasts. See how thick the single slab  stone roof is !

Sturdy shelter ! Wouldn't want that slab of stone coming down on my head ! Was the old quarry open air or underground ? Old quarries are always fascinating. Around here they sometimes have old graffiti carved in the stone walls... and there is an excellent graffiti museum on the subject in the town of Verneuil en Halatte, near Creil...

What, no wall paintings? I think that before entering I'd have a good look around the interior with a flashlight. There could be brigands or Neanderthals or Lord knows what.

Beaucoup plus beau qu'un "bunker!"

Drôle de borie !
Not to be... buried.

Love Bob's comment. Super photo- I seem to think there's a rather good wine comes from this place, but then I suppose one could say that about half of France!
