Green Avignon

AvignonIn Avignon like in many other places around the world nowadays, green is the designated colour for all things environmentally friendly : green reusable shopping bag, green trash can with "un peu d'ô" (a bit of water) on it, city council magazine presenting our future tram line (supposedly a "greener" public transport option), green dog poo bag dispenser and paper recycling bin, green itinerary marker, glass & bottle recycling container, greenery on a balcony, green netting on a scaffolding...
Green has also been chosen by City Daily Photo bloggers as their theme for this first day of July. Click here to view thumbnails for all participants

Yes, 'green' is for the environment but also a marketing tool for 'persuading' us that environmental concerns are paramount when they just might not be.

Demeurons en VERT et contre tous !

Plenty of green there. My friends Dick and Mary will be in Avignon tomorrow on a Viking cruise ship. If you see two friendly Americans, smile and say "hi."

A great GREEN theme day posting and a reminder for us all to try to "go green" a little more!

Very appropriate to the theme (which I have no material for). I admire Avignon's attitude on environmental issues, and France's in general. Here we battle know-nothings who want more money now (they call it economic growth) and don't give a damn about the planet's future.

Great shots Nathalie. I don't have the best french but is Avignon voting on a new tram system in top right picture?

Super collage with a message. I like that France has these facilities. Monaco (admittedly not France) uses electric vehicles for nearly all its vehicles, no bad thing. Happy GREEN day!

une vision verte superbement déclinée

Julie - you're right and my message in French had a twist that it didn't have in English : "Green is the colour code for all things supposedly environmentally friendly".
The effectiveness of some can rightfully be challenged. I went to a meeting regarding the proposed tram line and one person in the public said trams are a fad and there are other 'greener' options available for city transport (he gave several examples in foreign countries). But the mayor's answer was that WHETHER there will be a tram is no longer open for debate, the budget has been voted. The only question now is which route it will follow and where the stops will be.

Jack - Dick and Mary should have a great time in Avignon today, it's a beautiful day here, very sunny!

Mark - Yes there have been a series of public debates about the tram in the past couple of weeks (15, 20 and 30 June).
The purpose is no longer to discuss WHETHER there will be a tram, the budget has been voted. The only question now is which route it will follow and where the stops will be.

Beau collage vert :)

Great news Avignon. I was in Reims just after their new tram system opened, very impressive. I would love to have a tram stop at my front door.

What a superb collection of "green" items, Natalie. Nice that they opened the curtains for you on the building site.

You have done the "green thing" with your collage of greens. I would have to say that the window balcony is my favorite.

Bises,
Genie
