Inside the cathedral

Cathédrale Notre Dame des Doms, Avignon

Tomorrow on Ascension Thursday there will be a mass at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of the Doms cathedral. Look how worn out the stone floor is. Between christenings, weddings, funerals, discreet week day services, grand Sunday masses, processions and special celebrations I wonder how many thousands of faithful have come here to worship over the centuries ?

Cheers, Nathalie. This high contrast photo is perfect, with the person in silhouette with sun flaring, and the detail of the worn flooring. Excellent!

The shot was really stunning. The contrast effect of the image gives so much detail.

Siddartha Joshi - no, it isn't someone I know. I took several shots as people entered and exited the church until I got a shot with someone positioned exactly right. Looking at it now though, I find the man has a military look which makes me feel somewhat uneasy.

Many tens of thousands, I'm sure. What a beautiful, evocative photograph.

La lumière comme personnage... Bravo!

Very atmospheric, Nathalie...if that floor could talk!

The number would be uncountable. Faith is a powerful draw, although there are others at least as important. You might be able to sell this photo as a poster for a Stephen King movie.

Oh what a stunning photo!
Yes indeed, a place much prayed in.

Happy Ascension Day to you, Nathalie, from Jerusalem! Bonne fête.
