The clown

Meet Lino, the clown in black who performs every afternoon on Palace square (place du Palais). Here he is during his show (below) and taking a rest (above). His real name is Simon but shhhhh, I never told you that.

I look at this wonderful set of photos, and think how nice it is to be able to have a job like this. I guess it works where you live but here the poor guy would have no health insurance, no hospitalization and no retirement benefits. In short he would have to perform for handouts the rest of his life and then depend on the state to give him bed and board in old age.

You're right Abe, I also wonder about how these people live. I suspect they have a 'normal' job and this is a side activity. I don't think one can make a living out of this, but who knows? I didn't talk with Simon long enough to find out.

The silhouette photo is amazing. You caught him at just the right moment. Like seeing what he really looks like. My lips are sealed!

I'm drawn in by the second picture. The pale face makeup with the two lurid accents looks great on the black cloak. Wonderful eye expression. Their dark color makes for a nice counterpoint with the cloth.

There is a Bastille Day post on STL CDPB today.

Nathalie, I adore both the silhouette and portrait. Ditto Stragetastes' observations, and I like seeing the little smear of whiteface on his black hat. I have a holiday salute and link to you and other French blogs today. Hope you are enjoying the day!

Oh no clowns beware the clowns. I belong to that group of people who have a fear of clowns. Not sute if it's the oversized feet or the grotesque make-up, but they disturb me. Happy celebrations.

Lino/Simon has a very interesting face. He looks somewhat surprised that you are taking his photo.
I hope he managed to make enough money to buy his supper.
