Siesta

An old man taking a quiet nap by a fountain on a hot summer afternoon. Lovely Provencal scene, except... Can you spot what's special about it?

I love this photo. It's wonderful. Interesting! I like paintings on walls so much.

This afternoon at nap time, French TV will broadcast live the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games in Beijing. Controversy has been (and still is) fierce over whether France should have been boycotting the opening ceremony (not the games themselves) in the name of human rights in China. Citizens can also make a statement by deciding not to watch it on TV.
That's what I'll do. Siesta.

An Xcellent painting and a great photo!

I love these trompe-l'oeil photos. They're such fun, and sometimes so real!! I painted a trompe l'oeil scene on our smaller bathroom wall....perhaps I should post it!

I like the painting even more than the live scene.

I have been dealing with rheumatoid arthritis in my hands. The chemotherapy drug doesn't stop the pain so my typing is limited.

I love the old gent by the fountain but my favorite is the front of the building. The lovely, worn gold colors and the designs are just wonderful. I would love to be able to photograph it myself.

While most people have commented on the painting of the old man, I think it is really a statue or model of a man. What gives it away is the shadows that the statue casts which, if you look carefully, are the same as at the base of the wall and also in the first photo, the shadow cast by the posts.

What I want to know is do the authorities replace the statue when it's time for the old man to wake up?

A very interesting shot Nathalie

How utterly fabulous! Well I thought with were in Italy with the name of the Church! Perhaps we are. The whole facade of the building is trompe l'oeil. Adore it. Such a clever artist. More fab photos.

That artwork is amazing. Street art can often compares very well with anything in a gallery.

Only the left hand side, the man in white, is 'real'. The rest, on the wall, is painted. Great stuff.

Yes, murals such as these are not only realistic, but works of art also. I'm finding more and more of these around the globe and they do add a great deal to the environment in a very positive way!

Very clever. I've often wondered how they do it. The same with the pavement artists. Incredible talent. This mural is very tasteful. I love the dozing man and the water font.

Good picture - the wall painting is very lifelike ..

Kevin from OrganicPix.com said...

Wow, incredibly realistic! Would have never guessed the complexity of the entire wall being trompe l'oei.
