What an interesting photo - when I enlarged it I could see shapes of puppy dogs and seahorses. Yes, I do have a pretty good imagination!!
Oh what fun Davine - yes, I can see the seahorse too ! (but can't see the puppy dogs, will have to look again)
And I see the little critters who dunnit!

Non Lou Ravi, cette photo a été prise il y a moins de trois semaines.
Ces bébêtes auraient dû être au dodo depuis longtemps.
J'ai remarqué en taillant en pleine période de froid (cf les roues de l'Isle) que la sève n'était pas entièrement descendue. Mauvais plan pour nos amis les arbres et la végétation en général. Lucanie: parce qu'espèce à protéger ? sourire...

These holes were obviously eaten by an insect. In Costa Rica we have leaf cuter ants, which I have shown on my Daily Photo site several times. They do not eat the leaves, but carry whole leaves on their backs back to the nest, not to eat, but to feed a fungus in their nest, which they eat.

After enlarging the photograph...I immediately, noticed the two or three small bugs that created the holes in the leaf.
Nathalie, what a nice photograph and when it comes to what images(That I see after the insects left behind...after eating holes in the leaf)
...I think that I see ...Sea horses.

Looking at this closely I can't figure out the culprit, but I'm as useless with plants etc as I am with things that eat them. However I thought it curious how all the little holes somehow look like the little map fragments you get in clipart collections!
Its making me hungry...

J'ai trouvé un cambrioleur de dessin anmimé qui passe le mur, est ce le même qui a cambriolé notre maison le 24 et a pris une grosse partie de nos cadeaux de Noël???
